About

Hey there, my name’s Niki, I’m a psychotherapist and coach!

So a bit about me… I’m 42 (ok nearly 43!), mother to Jake who’s nearly 19 and Muffin the deerhound lurcher. I live in a really beautiful part of Devon right on the edge of Dartmoor and before I had my son I work with competition horses. Riding has been a big part of my life since I was tiny and I’m continued to be fascinated by the empathetic connection between horses and humans as well as the similarities we face when triggered (fight or flight!). Whilst I very rarely ride now I own 5 ponies which I’ve had since babies and trained… of which 2 (Ruper Jones the resuced Dartmoor Hill Pony and Mabel the shetland) now live in an amazing centre for equine therapy in Dartington working with children and teenagers with challenging backgrounds. Thomas and Pudding are on loan as childrens riding ponies and Sunny still lives with me.

I am now EMDR practitioner (foundation, intermediate and advanced levels), clinical hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner and have developed an integrative approach to my practice which includes coaching for resilience and empowerment as well as specific outcomes from fears and phobias, anxiety, grief and bereavement, developmental and acute traumas. My training also includes stress management as well as life coaching, and I am currently studying a level 3 accredited with the AfN in nutrition and diet.

My background since having my son has been in education and I have a first class honours degree in early childhood studies specialising in child development, attachment patterns, mindsets and Mindfulness. I have worked with children and families for the past 18 years and retrained as a psychotherapist and coach, not only because of what I was witnessing within the education system but also because of my awareness of how our early life experiences impact on us in adulthood.

In 2016 I founded Rethink Your Life CIC as I had a dream of being able to help people like myself, on low incomes or struggling, to access specialist modes of therapy and support which is affordable. From this The Resilient Kids Project developed which is my workshop series for families teaching parents the stabilisation and resilience techniques I use in my practice each day with clients of all ages. The aim of this programme is to empower parents to help manage thier childrens anxieties in a non reactive manner. The Resilient Kids Project has been delivered both as a series of evening workshops as well as half day weekend sessions in Exeter and South Devon.

I also now run Rethinking You as the sister company which provides psychotherapy and coaching for all ages – it’s been such an exciting journey to branch out and grow!

I am so passionate about the work I do and each day brings so many affirmative experiences as I see my clients grow and change in their mindsets as well as develop resileince and strong secure self – belief. Helping people build good boundaries whilst providing a safe and nurturing space for this growth period is at the very heart of all my practice. My practice is run from my home in order to offer such an affordable service. It is a warm, cosy, calm and peaceful space in the countryside on the edge of Dartmoor. Here we can explore Mindfulness practice and mind body connection as you reconnect to your body having experienced trauma or distress, as well as going through deep level but gentle processing techniques with the EMDR and Hypnotherapy.
